RESPIRATORY MANIFESTATIONS OF GASTROESOPHAGEAL REFLUX IN CHILDREN Mikhail Kazachkov Infants and Children’s Hospital of Brooklyn, New York, USA
Gastroesophageal reflux is common finding in children with upper and lower airway diseases. Causal relationship between gastroesophageal reflux and respiratory symptoms is frequently difficult to establish. The course of antireflux treatment with subsequent reassessment of the patient is indicated in the cases when the practitioner suspects gastroesophageal reflux to be a cause of respiratory symptoms. Antireflux surgery should be reserved to the cases when gastroesophageal reflux is clearly responsible for respiratory symptoms and the patient has already failed aggressive conservative therapy.
