Overview of Child Tuberculosis in Siauliai District of Lithuania Stase Aciene, Rita Sopiene, Danute Jadzeviciene, Dane Slapkauskaite
Child tuberculosis (TB) in its initial stage is characterised by non-specific features. The study on the specific tests and treatment features was conducted in the period of 6 years in the hospital of tuberculosis of Siauliai district of Lithuania and involved 149 children with tuberculosis. The results are analysed and summarised in the article. Acid resistant bacteria in sputum smear were detected in 6,3 perc., in gastric lavage – in 10,0 perc. of the surveyed. The sputum culture for TB was positive in 19,4 perc., gastric lavage culture for TB positive in 15,7 perc. of the surveyed. It was found drug – resistant TB in 4,0 perc. of the children. 65,0 perc. of the TB ailing children were new infected, 75,2 perc. were in previous contact with infected adults.
