Overview of Child Tuberculosis in Siauliai District of Lithuania

Child tu­ber­cu­lo­sis (TB) in its ini­tial sta­ge is cha­rac­te­ri­sed by non-spe­ci­fic fe­a­tu­res. The stu­dy on the spe­ci­fic tests and tre­at­ment fe­a­tu­res was con­duc­ted in the pe­riod of 6 years in the hos­pi­tal of tu­ber­cu­lo­sis of Siau­liai di­strict of Lit­hu­a­nia and in­vol­ved 149 chil­dren with tu­ber­cu­lo­sis. The re­sults are ana­ly­sed and sum­ma­ri­sed in the ar­tic­le. Acid re­sis­tant bac­te­ria in spu­tum sme­ar we­re de­tec­ted in 6,3 perc., in gast­ric la­va­ge  – in 10,0 perc. of the sur­ve­y­ed. The spu­tum cul­tu­re for TB was po­si­ti­ve in 19,4 perc., gast­ric la­va­ge cul­tu­re for TB po­si­ti­ve in 15,7 perc. of the sur­ve­y­ed. It was found drug – re­sis­tant TB in 4,0 perc. of the chil­dren.  65,0 perc. of the TB ai­ling chil­dren we­re new in­fec­ted, 75,2 perc. we­re in pre­vio­us con­tact with in­fec­ted adults.
