The Prevalence of Allergic Rhinitis Among 6-7 and 13-14 Years Old Kaunas School-children in 1994-1995 and 2001-2002 (ISAAC)

The aim of the stu­dy was to de­ter­mi­ne the pre­va­len­ce of al­ler­gic rhi­ni­tis symp­toms among 6 - 7 and 13 - 14 years old Kau­nas scho­ol­chil­dren and to eva­lu­a­te dy­na­mics of the pre­va­len­ce du­ring the last 6 years. 8980 scho­ol­chil­dren we­re qu­es­tio­ned in 1994-1995 and 2001-2002 years, using stan­dar­di­sed ISAAC gu­es­tion­nai­res. Res­pon­se ra­te was 90 perc. Al­ler­gic rhi­ni­tis was diag­no­sed mo­re of­ten among 6-7 years old bo­ys and 13-14 years old girls (p<0,05). The pre­va­len­ce of diag­no­sed rhi­ni­tis inc­re­a­sed in both age groups du­ring the last 6 years and chan­ges we­re sta­tis­ti­cal­ly sin­gni­fi­cant (from 1,4 to 2,4 perc. among 6-7 years old and from 4,5 to 6,2 perc. among 13-14 years old scho­ol­chil­dren res­pec­ti­ve­ly.
